VACCINeS FOR CATS
Vaccination protocols are no longer "one size fits all". Factors such as age, lifestyle and location as well as risk factors, such as species and breed are considered when developing a vaccination program for your pet. The following are general vaccination recommendations for puppies, adult dogs, kittens, and adult cats. Due to your pet’s individual requirements and specific needs, your veterinarian may modify this schedule. Vaccines are divided into Core or “must have” and non-Core or “optional”.
FVRCP (Core) - Combined vaccination protecting against Feline Panleukopenia, Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus. Given to kittens in a series of 3 vaccinations at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age. It is boosted every 1-3 years in adulthood depending on risk factors. Unvaccinated adult cats need 2 vaccinations 3-4 weeks apart.
Feline Leukemia (non-Core) - This vaccination is recommended for all outdoor cats. For Kittens and Adult Cats - We recommend 2 sets of vaccinations given at 3 – 4 week intervals. After the first year, this vaccination should be administered yearly.
Rabies (Core) - Given to kittens at greater than 12 weeks of age. It is boosted in the first year and then every 1-3 years in adulthood depending on risk factors. Rabies vaccination is required by law.
